- Advocates for the importance of trans-disciplinary research that spans disciplinary and institutional boundaries.

- Focus on the study and teaching of state-sponsored violence and its aftermath.

- Facilitate scholarly discussions, with the goal of engaging an international academic community, attracting promising undergraduate and graduate students and research
